We spent our days relaxing by the pool, soaking in the sunshine! At night we ate great dinners (except for one...I feel bad admitting it, but we took two bites of our meals and took off!), and explored the downtown area and nearby marina shopping district. It was very cool to watch the huge cruise lines come in every day...we were basically a stones throw from where they docked, so we walked over a few times!
On our last night we went to a bull fight! Aaron was really excited about it, but as for myself I was a bit apprehensive. Aaron filled me in on the details of what to expect (the bull gets killed). When we arrived at the bull ring, it was filled with locals and vacationers...vendors milled around selling beers, snacks, and souvenirs. The fighters put on quite a show, and after the first blow and my initial shock settled down, it was interesting to watch this part of Mexican culture. We were sitting right by the "judge" of the fights and it was cool to watch him throughout. The first of the four fighters did so well, he was awarded the ears of the bull (the best a fighter can earn is two ears and the tail).
When it was time to go home, we were expecting a return home as smooth as the one down. Boy, were we wrong. It took us a day and a half to get home! Our plane was delayed out a Mexico, so we spend 8 hours in the airport. By the time we boarded and made in into Denver's airport we had missed our connection to GR (along with the 12 other people who were on the same flight). Because it was quite late at night there were no more flights departing. In fact, we were told that the first flight we could book seats on was not until Tuesday. Thanks to the American Airline complete cancellations, every open seat on every flight of all the major airlines were booked! We were skunked! Well, to make a long story short...after three hours of sleep in Denver, we got on a 6 am flight to Chicago, then flew standby into GR that afternoon. It was a nightmare, but at least we made it home. We talked to a family of 4 from Holland, who had to fly Fargo just to find an available connection to Chicago.
All in all it was a wonderful vacation! We had such a great time together...it is so fun to travel with your best friend!
