Spring Break 2010

After much anticipation and a three week countdown, spring break finally arrived. This year Aaron and I, along with my parents, went to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We stayed at the Sandos Playacar which turned out to be a very large, but great resort. We were thoroughly entertained by the many high school seniors on their "big" spring break trip. We certainly knew when they woke up and when happy hour rolled around!

Most of our days were spent relaxing by the pool just outside our room or walking on the beach. Lounging by the pool reading a good book is my favorite part of any vacation....nothing is more relaxing! The sun warmed temperatures well into the 80's most everyday, and the nights were equally as pleasant.

At our resort we enjoyed great food and drinks. I realized when we got home just how good it was thanks to the added pounds on the scale! What can I say...I cave in when there is a soft serve ice cream machine within walking distance of my lounge chair! We dined with my parents most nights, and then hung out at the resort's "meeting point." Here we enjoyed people watching, the entertainment, and ice cold beers! One night the winner of Mexico's American Idol performed...she was really good. And who could forget crowding around the Sports Bar's TV watch NCAA Final Four Basketball.

We ventured over to Cozumel one morning to do a little shopping. My mom and dad had been there several times, and mentioned it's kind of fun do putz around. And that's exactly what we did. While at Cozumel we shopped around and grabbed lunch at a little restaurant overlooking the water. Unfortunately, the ferry ride to the island did not sit well with me, but otherwise it was a fun little excursion. We had a little shopping plaza just a five minute walk from our resort, so we headed there late on afternoon too. It's all the same trinkets and sombrero's in every store, so no great finds. The great finds were down on 5th Avenue, which is kind of like Playa's downtown or touristy district. After dinner one night, we loaded up in a cab and headed over there.

As trips always do, this one flew by. It was hard to leave the beautiful sights and warm sunny weather, but we certainly looked forward to seeing Mabel. She got good report at doggy camp; in fact she befriended a 150 pound Mastiff pup. Mabel and Otis romped all week long: I don't think she realized we were gone, until we picked her up!
