Alaska 2009

We returned home from our 13 day Alaska trip last week. Although it was good to be home, we had a good time on the trip. We started in Vancouver (Awesome city! We spent the afternoon in a cool little fishing district.) where we boarded the Sapphire Princess Cruise Boat. We cruised along the southern coast of Alaska stopping at Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, sailed through Glacier Bay, then ended at Whittier. From Whittier we boarded a train for 9 hours which brought us to Denali (inland and more north in Alaska) where we stayed for two days. We got a chance to hike a pretty serious mountain here and just squeaked by from crossing the path of a bear! From Denali we headed over to Fairbanks. In Fairbanks, we took a Riverboat cruise where we saw and learned a lot about Alaska. In Fairbanks we saw a few dog sled camps and were able to interact (and cuddle) with some of the pups! We boarded a red-eye in Fairbanks and headed home to GR! The jet lag was rough for both Aaron and I...I think it took us until the weekend to catch back up on sleep.

Some highlights of the trip included (will be clarified in pictures):
  • Whales, Moose, and Eagles
  • Winning $30 in one "pull" on the slots (not bad for a 1st time gambler)
  • Hiking to the top of Mt. Healey
  • Seeing Sarah Palin's Governor's mansion in Juneau (so simply embedded in the heart of the city)
  • Glaciers! We even held a piece that broke off and floated to shore.
  • Vancouver! What a cool town.
  • Getting sea sick :(
  • Spending time with all 34 family members.
  • The food! Yum!
  • The beautiful sites.
  • My husband, the international clothing model!
  • Cuddling with a 3 month old sled dog! Be still my heart.
  • 22 hours of daylight! The sun rose at 3:00 am and did not set until 12:45ish am! It felt like noon at midnight.
