Flames and Sparks!

There is exciting news in the Quist household this weekend...especially for Aaron.

A few months ago Aaron contacted the chief of the Gaines Township Fire Department to express interest in the Volunteer Fire Department. He met with the chief a few times in order to learn more about the FD as well as the job opportunities. Unfortunately, they were not hiring at the time. So it came as a surprise to Aaron last week when the chief called him and asked him to come in for an interview! Aaron was excited, but I was hesitant and nervous. My anxiety-ridden mind could only envision the danger of the job. He came back later that night feeling good about how the interview went...he also had discovered a lot more about the responsibilities and duties of a firefighter. After filling me in on most of the details, my head was swirling with questions. There were so many concerns filling my mind and heart. Is this job going to put the kibosh on our social life, travel plans, weekends at the cottage? How dangerous is it? What exactly is meant by volunteer?

I was having a hard time expressing my concerns and apprehension about this because Aaron was so excited. This was the first opportunity in a long time that he was truly geeked about! Well, Friday night he got the call...he was offered the job! If he accepted he was to start his medical class this upcoming week and continue on to "Fire School." The fire chief told him if he did accept the job there was one more step in the process. That final step was for me to sit down with the chief...it was important to him that I was okay with what my husband was about to do.

On Saturday morning, we met with him which allowed me to ask my questions. By the time we left, I felt more and ease and 100% ok with Aaron's choice to accept the job. So, ladies, back off...my husband is a Fireman!!
