The Meulenberg Olympics

Yesterday was the 4th annual Meulenberg Olympics! The Olympics were held up at the cottage with the extended Meulenberg clan. My dad kicked off the afternoon with the opening ceremonies, followed by the unveiling of the trophy made by my Aunt Mardi, attendance was taken, and we were off to event #1. This event was a bean bag toss. The goal was to land the bean bag into a hula hoop. Slowly and surely, Meulenberg's were eliminated until there was one winner. WINNER: Carrie Quist! (My cousin Michelle was awarded 2nd place).

Then we were off to the frisbee throw. The object here was hit a telephone pole with a frisbee. Not too tough unless you get heckled by your uncle (Thanks, Uncle Ernie). My Uncle Mark won this event! Mardi and Jalaine took 2nd and 3rd.

Finally, we made it to event #3. This was the most difficult (in my opinion). For this event you had to drop a clothespin (from chin height) into a empty milk jug. Hardly anyone made it past the first round. My Uncle Ron won quite easily, defeating my Aunt Barb and Aaron!

When it was time to award the trophy, my dad realized there was a three way tie between my two uncles and me. My brother Randy came up with the idea to have each of us take one try at each event. Best of out three wins! To make a long story short, my Uncle Mark ended up with the trophy, while I tied for 2nd with my Uncle Ron. My competitive spirit was bummed, but there is always next year.

Following the Olympic events, we hit the water. Several of us skied (Ernie, Mark, my mom, Randy, and me). I haven't skied in years and didn't plan on it until Randy said if I went, he would go. How could I let that offer pass me by?

All in all it was an excellent day! I can't wait for next year!
